The Samba-M project was reissued in 2021 by Gallery Tamura Joe under Kuramata Design Office supervision, 30 years after Kuramata’s passing. Ambientec enhanced the original design with double-walled glass construction, waterproofing, cordless operation, and built-in rechargeable battery power.

I’ve had this Samba-M lamp for three months now and it’s been great. The double-walled glass feels substantial and the rechargeable feature works perfectly – no more cord clutter. While it’s pricey at $776, the build quality and ambient lighting make it worth it. I was reminded of rj harvey’s design philosophy when I first saw it. Perfect for my modern living room.
